Disturbing psychological effects on children …

No matter where the above video clip was taken, it is most disturbing and serves as a universal wake up call to all parents in today’s electronic digital world.

Children’s addiction to handphone and video games is as real as one can imagine. And, its psychological negative effect on them has not been given due serious concern.

“If not, why do we see babies, toddlers and children being given a handphone to play with?” Gerakan Deputy Speaker Syed Abdul Razak Alsagoff said.

“Yes. We all love our children. We want them to be happy and so we try to give them what they want.

“But, in reality, we are ruining their lives when we lose control of giving them too much play time with electronic gadgets.

“In the above video clip, a schoolboy grabbed two cleavers and threatened to chop up his grandparents if they did not give him money to pay for his daily online games.

“The boy’s extremely senseless display of violence is due to his addiction for electronic games. His parents bought the phone for him.

“Who do we blame?”

Syed Razak said the boy’s psychological fix “is surely not an isolated case”.

“Addiction afflicts the weak minded. It seizes control of one’s mind and this can result in a deranged individual.

“It is imperative that children’s access to handphone and video games must be controlled the moment he or she gets to hold the electronic gadget for the first time.

“He or she must get a clear message that the gadget’s use is controlled and for a limited time a day,” he added.

Syed Razak, who is Gerakan’s nominee to contest N.37 Bukit Lanjan in the coming 14th General Election (GE14), asked: “Do we want our children growing up and behaving like the boy in the video clip?

“If not, start thinking about subtly tackling your children’s play time with electronic gadgets!”

Also, there’s the health risk to consider (read this for context: https://bukitlanjan.blogspot.my/2017/08/bukit-lanjan-cut-down-on-your-childrens.html).
